Carpet in Madison

The flooring Madison has to offer is practically limitless, but those that want a beautiful product may want to go with carpet. Madison has always been a city known for its sense of style and love of variety, and style and variety is what carpet is all about. However, once that perfect carpet is chosen, you are then faced with the challenging part: how to keep it clean.

There are a variety of methods to keep carpet clean regardless of how much use the carpet gets. Madison has a lot of silicate matter that gets tracked into homes. These silicates are tiny, but sharp. They become ground into the fibers of carpet, where they slice away, creating the frayed look. This is why it is so important to vacuum on a regular basis, at least twice a week and more in high traffic areas. Also, the quick job most folks make of vacuuming is not sufficient. The vacuum should be moved slowly, hitting each spot multiple times. This will also clean the matting underneath, something that is just as important as the surface. This matting can become many times heavier than its original weight as dirt and dust accumulate.

Stains should be treated as soon as possible, as the longer they sit the further the stain will penetrate the fibers, making them much more difficult to clean. To treat a stain, purchase a spot cleaner and test it in a hidden area. If it is safe, apply it to the stain and wait around ten minutes. Starting on the outside of the stain and working in, blot the stain with a cloth or sponge. Do not simply pass the cloth or sponge over the area as this will spread the stain. Finally, fold a dry cloth and place it over the stain, then place a heavy object on the cloth. Leave it for half an hour, then remove and make sure the spot is clean and dry. Every year or so, the carpet should also be deep cleaned using a steamer. These can be purchased or rented. Remove any furniture from the room. If an item cannot be moved, protect its base and legs with pieces of tinfoil or the cleaning solution may damage the wood or fabric. Make slow, steady movements with the cleaner, hitting each place at least twice. Change the water as it becomes dirty. Once you finish, open all doors and windows to speed drying, and don’t return the furniture until the floor is completely dry.

The variety of carpet Madison has to offer is abundant. It is important you pick a carpet you love, but it is also important to care for it properly so you can enjoy it for years to come.
